Terms of Service

1. Introduction

Ascendara is a free and open-source software application licensed under the MIT License. By using Ascendara, you acknowledge and agree to the following Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

You agree to these terms:

  • When you download, clone, or fork Ascendara's source code.
  • When you use any Ascendara servers, features, or services.

If you do not agree, do not use Ascendara.

2. License & Usage

Ascendara is distributed under the MIT License. You are free to:

  • Use, copy, modify, and distribute the software.
  • Create derivative works, subject to the MIT License terms.

Restrictions:

  • Ascendara is free and open-source; you may not charge users for access to Ascendara itself.
  • All derivative works must include attribution to Ascendara and tagoWorks.
  • Do not use Ascendara for unlawful or malicious purposes.

3. Relationship with Ascend (Paid Service)

Ascend is a separate hosted subscription service operated by tagoWorks.

  • Ascend provides automated access to features that are already available manually in Ascendara, such as queueing multiple downloads.
  • Ascendara's source code remains open-source, and Ascend is not a commercial derivative.
  • Use of Ascend is optional, and access is provided through a subscription outside the scope of this license.

4. Updates

Users may choose manual or automatic updates for Ascendara. It is your responsibility to keep the software up to date for optimal performance.

5. Analytics (Optional)

Ascendara may collect anonymous analytics to improve the application. Analytics are opt-in only.

Data Collected:

  • Session information (version, platform, browser, screen resolution, session duration, time zone)
  • User interactions (feature usage, UI interactions, tutorial progress)
  • Performance metrics (memory usage, navigation timing, network conditions, sanitized errors)

Privacy Notes:

  • No personally identifiable information (PII) is intentionally collected.
  • Users may enable or disable analytics at any time; pending local data is cleared upon disabling.
  • Data stored on Ascendara servers may be aggregated or anonymized for analysis.

6. Data Storage & Security

  • All Ascendara data is stored securely.
  • Data is never sold or shared with third parties for advertising purposes.
  • Sensitive information in error reports is automatically redacted.

Third-party infrastructure disclaimer:

Ascendara may rely on hosting providers, CDNs, or DNS services solely for infrastructure purposes. These services are not used for analytics, tracking, or advertising.

7. Artwork & Metadata

Ascendara may display game artwork and metadata from third-party APIs such as IGDB, GiantBomb, or SteamRip.

  • Users must provide their own API keys where required.
  • Ascendara does not claim ownership of any artwork or trademarks.
  • If a copyright holder requests removal, please contact [email protected].

8. Reporting & Support

  • Users may submit bug reports via right-click menus in the app or through the game download screen.
  • Support is available on the official tagoWorks Discord server.
  • tagoWorks is not responsible for any damages, account losses, or issues caused by third-party services.

9. Limitation of Liability

Ascendara is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. tagoWorks is not liable for:

  • Any damages arising from use or inability to use Ascendara.
  • Loss of data, revenue, or other assets.
  • Service interruptions due to hosting or third-party infrastructure.

10. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA.
